At least 105 people have lost their lives and 55 others have sustained injuries following a catastrophic petrol tanker explosion in Majiya town, Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State. This tragic incident occurred around 11:30 PM on Tuesday when the driver lost control of the tanker near Khadija University.

The vehicle was traveling from Kano to Nguru in Yobe State when it exploded, leading to an influx of locals attempting to collect spilled fuel, which resulted in additional casualties. The Public Relations Officer for the Jigawa State Police Command, Shiisu Adam, confirmed the casualty figures during a phone interview, highlighting that the injured have been transported to Ringim General Hospital and the Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kudu due to bed shortages.

Currently, preparations are underway for a mass burial, as many victims have been severely burned and are beyond recognition. This tragic incident has raised significant concerns regarding safety protocols for fuel transport in the area.
