The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 21-year-old David Segun, a US returnee, alongside three others, for allegedly murdering an Uber driver during a robbery attempt in Obalende, Lagos. The Commissioner of Police, Ishola Olanrewaju, disclosed the details while parading the suspects at the command headquarters.
Reports indicate that the suspects, including Emeka Akwara (19), Samuel Ariori (21), and Lukman Ariori (19), booked the Uber ride from Chevron in Lekki to Obalende on January 9, 2025. Upon arriving at a secluded area, the group allegedly attacked the driver, stabbing him multiple times in the neck. Despite their intent to steal the car, they were unsuccessful.
Residents intervened, apprehending two of the suspects and handing them over to the police. The remaining two were later captured during follow-up operations in Lekki. The victim’s body was moved to the morgue at Mainland Hospital, Yaba, pending further investigation.
The police assured the public that the suspects would face swift prosecution. This incident, among others, underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement in Lagos despite their efforts to maintain security during the festive season.
