Imo Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has praised the removal of fuel subsidies, calling it a direct blessing for state governments. The policy has increased revenue allocations, enabling greater investments in infrastructure and public services. Uzodimma emphasized that this increased funding allows states to accelerate development and improve citizens' lives.

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has hailed the removal of fuel subsidies as a significant benefit for state governments, allowing them to accelerate development and improve infrastructure. Speaking during an inspection of various projects on Monday to mark the first anniversary of his second term, Uzodimma emphasized the positive impact the policy has had on revenue allocations to states.

The governor explained that the subsidy removal, part of President Bola Tinubu’s broader economic reforms, has increased the funds available to state governments, facilitating enhanced investments in infrastructure and public services. Uzodimma noted that the policy, while posing challenges, has also brought substantial advantages, particularly in the areas of socio-infrastructure and ease of doing business.

“In reconciling the negative effects of the fuel subsidy removal and the benefits in terms of socio-infrastructure, social benefits, and the ease of doing business occasioned by the provision of the enabling infrastructure, I think it is a blessing,” he said, underscoring that the increased revenue provides state governments with an opportunity to demonstrate their ability to deliver improvements for citizens.

Uzodimma’s statement aligns with President Tinubu’s earlier remarks, where he declared that fuel subsidy payments would no longer be sustained, stressing the need for government at all levels to channel resources into projects that benefit Nigerians. The governor’s comments reflect a growing sentiment among state leaders that the subsidy removal, despite initial backlash, is an opportunity for positive change.
