VeryDarkMan (VDM), a social critic, was detained by the police for wearing a police uniform without authorization. After a viral video introduction as a police superintendent, the Nigeria Police Force launched an investigation. VDM apologized, but he remains in custody, with court proceedings expected soon.
Social critic and social media personality, VeryDarkMan (VDM), has been detained by police for allegedly wearing a police uniform without authorization. According to DKokopee, a friend of VDM, the incident arose from a viral video where VDM introduced himself as a “chief superintendent of police (CSP) of the Online Division,” stating his intention to combat online oppression.
The Nigeria Police Force responded by launching an investigation into how VDM acquired the uniform and the legitimacy of his claims. Following an interrogation at the police station, VDM posted a video expressing that he had no intention to impersonate any police officer and offered his apologies for any misunderstandings. He urged the public to obtain permission from law enforcement before wearing similar attire.
Despite his efforts to clarify the situation, DKokopee reported that VDM was still held in custody after the investigation, with plans for him to be arraigned in court. VDM’s friend criticized the police for detaining him, questioning their treatment of someone who sought to assist in improving their image.
He remarked, “Is this how they choose to pay someone who is trying to help the police build their image? VDM is going to be spending the night in police custody.”
