Social media critic VeryDarkMan has been released on bail after being charged with impersonation by the Nigeria Police Force. His arrest followed a viral video in which he wore a police uniform and claimed to be the “chief superintendent of police (CSP) of the online division.”

During his court appearance, he was granted bail set at N2 million, with two sureties also required to provide the same amount. He was instructed to surrender his international passports and any other forms of identification.

The police condemned his actions and announced plans to investigate the source of the police gear he wore and the legality of his claims. Following the backlash, VeryDarkMan issued a public apology, stating he did not intend to impersonate law enforcement. He advised the public to always seek approval from police or relevant authorities before using any attire that resembles police uniforms.

In his apology, he stated, “I didn’t mean to impersonate the police in any way, and I sincerely apologize to the Nigeria Police Force." He stressed the necessity of obtaining the appropriate permissions to prevent misinterpretations, noting that while his intentions were benign, it could lead to serious consequences.
