Boniface provided the assist for Martin Terrier's opener in the 17th minute. Although he missed a couple of chances shortly after, he finally found the net in the 30th minute, finishing with a low drive after beating a defender.
Hoffenheim responded with a goal from Mergim Berisha in the 38th minute, but Leverkusen remained in control. Florian Wirtz made it 3-1 from the penalty spot in the 72nd minute, and Boniface added his second goal of the match in the 76th minute to seal the victory.
