Senate President Godswill Akpabio has disclosed that he spent the night at the Dangote Cement factory in Obajana, Kogi State, on the day of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s wedding. His revelation came while addressing the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions following allegations of sexual harassment made against him by Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Defending himself against the claims, Akpabio reiterated his friendship with Akpoti-Uduaghan’s husband, stating, “Her husband is my good friend—so I thought. I even spent the night at the Dangote Cement factory on their wedding day because the airport lights in Kogi were not working.”
His statement came as the Senate Committee recommended that Akpoti-Uduaghan issue a written apology for allegedly bringing the Senate into disrepute. The committee upheld a six-month suspension for the Kogi Central senator, a decision stemming from a dispute over seating arrangements that escalated into a larger confrontation with the Senate leadership.
The controversy surrounding Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension has sparked nationwide debate, with supporters and critics weighing in on the matter. While some lawmakers attempted to reduce her suspension period, the Senate voted to maintain the six-month term.
