During an inter-ministerial briefing in Abuja, Nigeria's Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, highlighted the persistent challenge of infrastructure deficit in the country's power sector.
Adelabu disclosed that transformers dating back to the 1960s are still in use in certain regions of Nigeria, underscoring the deteriorating state of critical power infrastructure. He emphasized that the degradation of infrastructure poses a significant obstacle to the government's efforts to ensure reliable electricity supply across the nation.
Adelabu cited issues such as vandalized gas pipelines, obsolete generating plants, deteriorating transmission lines, weak cables, and crumbling towers as key concerns contributing to the sector's inefficiency.
