The Digest:
The Joint Tax Board (JTB) has announced the launch of an online portal that will allow individuals and businesses to instantly retrieve their 13-digit Tax Identification Number (TIN) using their National Identification Number (NIN) or Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration.
Key Points:
- The new portal, taxidjtb.gov.ng or taxidnrs.gov.ng, goes live on January 1, 2026.
- It eliminates the need for a separate TIN registration process by linking directly to existing national databases.
- For individuals: Enter your 11-digit NIN and verify personal details (First Name, Last Name, Date of Birth) as captured by NIMC to retrieve your TIN.
- For registered entities: Select the organisation type and enter the CAC registration number to retrieve the TIN.
- The 13-digit TIN is essential for tax compliance, banking, and major financial transactions.
- The initiative is a collaboration between the JTB (now Joint Revenue Board) and the Nigerian Revenue Service (formerly FIRS).
- This move aims to streamline taxpayer onboarding and reduce duplication in identity management
