Body camera footage has emerged showing the arrest of Ryan Wesley Routh, who is accused of attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump. The video, released by Martin County Sheriff's deputies, captures the intense moments after Routh was pulled over on a Florida highway. Deputies can be heard shouting commands as Routh, with his hands raised and shirt lifted to show no concealed weapons, calmly surrenders.
Routh allegedly attempted to target Trump while he was playing golf in West Palm Beach. Earlier, Secret Service agents found an AK-style rifle near Trump’s golf course and fired at the suspect, leading Routh to flee. He abandoned two backpacks, a scope, and a GoPro camera at the scene.
Sheriff William Snyder described Routh's demeanor as unusually calm, noting that he appeared more relaxed than one might expect in such a situation. Following an alert from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Department, local deputies launched a manhunt that led to his arrest.
Routh remains in custody and is scheduled for arraignment on September 30. He faces charges including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, with more charges expected as the investigation continues.
