A video capturing the aftermath of a Max Air emergency return has surfaced online, highlighting the tense moments after a suspected bird strike caused engine failure. The aircraft, en route to Abuja, was forced to return to Muhammadu Buhari International Airport, Maiduguri, shortly after takeoff on Wednesday.
Among the over 100 passengers was Borno State Deputy Governor Alhaji Umar Usman Kadafur, who, along with others, escaped unhurt. The incident reportedly occurred just 10 minutes into the flight.
The airline confirmed that the bird strike severely damaged one of the engines, prompting an immediate emergency landing. Engineers from Kano were dispatched to assess and repair the aircraft. Meanwhile, a replacement plane from Lagos was sent to transport the passengers to their destination.
Max Air’s Maiduguri Manager, Musa Bawuro, acknowledged the incident but declined to provide further details, stating he needed to consult with the flight captain.
The video, widely shared on social media, depicts the grounded aircraft surrounded by emergency responders and visibly relieved passengers. It has sparked discussions on flight safety and the challenges of bird strikes in aviation.
