Tensions flared in the Nigerian Senate as South-East senators staged a dramatic walkout after their motion to honor the late Humphrey Nwosu, former chairman of the National Electoral Commission (NEC), was rejected for the second time. Led by Enyinnaya Abaribe, the lawmakers had proposed renaming the INEC headquarters after Nwosu, citing his role in overseeing Nigeria’s freest election in 1993.

Despite support from multiple senators, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin ruled against the motion. In protest, the South-East caucus left the chamber, addressing the press to express their disappointment and urging President Bola Tinubu to personally ensure Nwosu’s legacy is recognized.
