Gunmen wreaked havoc in a riverine community in Egan Oriomi Otto Awori Local Council Development Area of Ojo, setting ablaze numerous homes and tragically claiming the life of a 15-month-old child.
The distraught father, Taiwo Israel, recounted the heartbreaking ordeal, detailing how his wife narrowly escaped with their other child while their baby, Emmanuel, was left behind and perished in the flames. Residents blamed the attack on a dispute over the installation of a traditional ruler, alleging political interference and wrongful leadership decisions. Amidst the chaos, 10 individuals sustained gunshot wounds, and a 90-year-old man suffered severe machete injuries.
Calls for government intervention and justice echoed through the community, with affected residents demanding recognition of their rightful leader and an end to the violence.
As tensions escalate, many families are forced to flee their homes in fear of further assaults, underscoring the urgent need for security measures and resolution of the underlying conflict.
