Voting in the Ondo governorship election has concluded peacefully, with sorting and counting underway. Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the APC expressed confidence in winning, citing his achievements. PDP candidate Ajayi Agboola criticized INEC's handling, alleging irregularities. Both candidates await the final results as residents anticipate the outcome.

Voting in the Ondo governorship election has ended, with the sorting and counting of ballots now in progress. The exercise, which commenced at 8 a.m. across 3,933 polling units in the state, officially closed around 2:30 p.m. However, voters already in line by the deadline were allowed to cast their ballots.

Incumbent Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), expressed optimism about his chances after voting in the Ilaje Local Government Area. He attributed his confidence to his administration's achievements over the past 10 months and his extensive campaign across the state’s 18 local government areas. Aiyedatiwa described the process as peaceful and well-organized, commending voters and security agencies for maintaining order.

Meanwhile, the opposition candidate, Ajayi Agboola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), raised concerns about the election’s credibility. Speaking after casting his vote, Agboola criticized delays in the accreditation process and alleged voter suppression. He claimed that inefficiencies in the electoral system, including malfunctioning BVAS devices, were deliberate attempts to undermine the election’s fairness.

The election, widely seen as a contest between Aiyedatiwa and Agboola, has drawn significant attention due to its implications for governance in Ondo State. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected to announce results in the coming days.

Residents eagerly await the outcome, hoping the election reflects their choices and strengthens democratic governance in the state.
