In a recent revelation, FIJ has uncovered that the Office of the Vice President of Nigeria made a payment of ₦10 million to settle hotel bills incurred by guests of Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, the daughter of prominent political figure Bola Tinubu. The transaction, dated November 17, 2023, was directed to Royal Pacific Group and explicitly described as a payment for hotel accommodation bills related to Mrs. Folashade Tinubu-Ojo's guests at Fraser Suites, Abuja. While records of government entities making payments for accommodation purposes have been previously documented, this marks the first instance of such payment being directed to a private citizen's guests.
FIJ uncovered this information through records on the BudgIT Govspend platform, derived from the publicly available Open Treasury Portal. Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, known as the Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, holds no elected government office, raising questions about the nature of the payment. Despite attempts to reach out to key figures involved, including Ibrahim Hadejia, Deputy Chief of Staff to the President in the Office of the Vice President, and Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President, the responses were elusive at press time. The revelation has ignited scrutiny into the financial transparency and propriety of such transactions within the political landscape
