The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the results for the 2024 November/December West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), focusing on private candidates. With a total of 65,023 students participating, 34,878 candidates (53.64%) achieved a credit in five mandatory subjects, including Mathematics and English.

This year’s results show a notable improvement, with a 9.35% increase in performance compared to the 2022 and 2023 exams, where 44.29% and 42.16% of candidates passed, respectively. Gender disparities were observed in performance, with females outshining males. A total of 51.58% of female candidates passed, while 48.41% of male candidates achieved the same feat.

Dr. Amos Dangut, WAEC’s Head of National Office, confirmed the release of results, stating that 95.9% of the results were fully processed, while 4.1% remained under processing due to issues attributed to the candidates. Additionally, 3.98% of results were withheld due to allegations of exam malpractice. Investigations into these cases are ongoing.

The council also highlighted that all candidates with special needs, including visually impaired, hearing-impaired, and albino candidates, had their results fully processed. Candidates can access their results through the WAEC Direct website and are encouraged to apply for their certificates through the council’s online portal. The examination had over 3,300 examiners involved in the grading process across various venues.
