NLC demands ₦250,000 minimum wage amid wage dispute with government. Joe Ajaero insists on fair pay amidst economic challenges

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has stood firm on its demand for a ₦250,000 minimum wage, rejecting the Federal Government's offer of ₦62,000. NLC President Joe Ajaero, speaking through General Secretary Emmanuel Ugboaja, emphasized this stance at an award ceremony in Kano.

Despite ongoing negotiations and the expiration of the previous minimum wage in April 2024, no consensus has been reached, intensifying tensions amid economic challenges and rising inflation. Ajaero highlighted the urgent need for a wage that supports dignified living standards for Nigerian workers, amidst efforts by some states like Kano to enhance employee compensation and benefits.

The NLC remains resolute in its pursuit of fair wages nationwide, advocating fiercely for worker rights amid economic pressures.
