The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has embarked on a groundbreaking initiative with the introduction of its maiden Computer Based Test (CBT) format for the WASSCE private candidates. Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut, the council’s Head of National Office (HNO), confirmed the commencement of the examination from January 31st to February 17th, 2024, while monitoring centers in Lagos.
This move aims to curb examination malpractice by eliminating the prior leakage of examination content. Dr. Dangut emphasized the robustness of the system, noting zero hitches since the exam began. The CBT, conducted simultaneously across all states and the Federal Capital Territory, boasts advanced infrastructure and extensive preparations, including alternative power sources.
Notably, the exam accommodates walk-in candidates, allowing registration up to 24 hours before the intended paper. Dr. Dangut clarified the hybrid format, combining on-screen objective questions with handwritten essay responses, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation. Anticipating results within 45 days of the last paper, WAEC plans to refine strategies for the upcoming second series, underscoring its commitment to modernizing assessment methods while maintaining academic integrity.
