Over 15,000 people have been displaced, 58 killed, and 82 homes destroyed in the past six weeks in Plateau State’s Riyom LGA. The Plateau Youth Council (PYC) is calling for federal intervention and labelling of Mahanga as a terrorist hideout.

  • PYC says 58 villagers were killed in 41 days by armed herders.
  • 31 people are in hospitals, some with severe injuries and no access to proper care.
  • 82 homes and farmlands were destroyed, deepening food insecurity.
  • Over 15,000 residents are displaced and living in unsafe, undignified conditions.
  • Youths call for permanent MOPOL deployment and full rehabilitation of victims.

“We know the attackers. They answer calls on victims’ phones,” said Zang Davou, chairman of the PYC in Riyom. “Our patience is stretched thin. These are coordinated, barbaric acts.”

PYC warns that the attacks are becoming more strategic and sophisticated. Despite some efforts by security forces, the council insists the response has fallen short of the scale of the crisis.

The PYC is demanding a full security deployment, safe return of displaced people, and urgent support for destroyed farms. “Food security is national security,” Davou stressed.
