Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has officially appointed Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo, resolving legal and political disputes following the passing of the previous monarch. Prince Owoade, an accomplished engineer and business leader, brings extensive professional experience to the throne.

On January 10, 2025, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State officially announced the appointment of Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo. His selection followed extensive consultations and divinations by the Oyomesi, which resolved the socio-political and legal disputes that arose after the passing of the former monarch, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, in April 2022.

Prince Owoade, from the Owoade-Agunloye family, has a strong educational and professional background. He studied mechanical engineering, earning both National and Higher National Diplomas in Nigeria before completing his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in the UK.

Professionally, he has worked internationally, starting as a Planning Engineer in the UK and currently serving as a Project Coordinator in Canada. He is also the president of a real estate and financial services company, showcasing his business expertise. The appointment of Prince Owoade marks a new chapter in the royal history of Oyo and is expected to bring stability to the region.
