Kelechi Iheanacho has joined Middlesbrough on loan after a difficult spell at Sevilla. The Super Eagles striker cited the club’s ambition to secure Premier League promotion as a key reason for his move. He’s eager to make an impact, with his debut expected against Sheffield United in the EFL Championship.

Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho has completed a loan move to Middlesbrough, marking a return to English football after a brief and challenging stint in Spain. The 28-year-old striker left Sevilla just six months after joining the La Liga side, opting for a fresh start in the EFL Championship.

Iheanacho had attracted interest from clubs like Celtic and Olympique Marseille, but he ultimately chose Middlesbrough due to the club’s ambitions and coaching setup. Speaking about his decision, Iheanacho praised the team’s competitive spirit and his discussions with the manager, which convinced him that the club was serious about pushing for Premier League promotion.

"I've played against Middlesbrough before, and I know how strong the team is. The manager has a clear plan, and I was impressed with what he shared about the club's direction. It’s an exciting challenge, and I’m eager to contribute,” Iheanacho said.

Returning to England feels like home for the former Leicester City forward, who won the FA Cup and Community Shield during his time in the Premier League. Having played in the Championship with Leicester last season, Iheanacho is confident in his ability to adapt quickly.

“I know what to expect in this league. It’s a tough competition, but I’m ready to give my best,” he added.

Iheanacho could make his debut for Middlesbrough in their upcoming clash against Sheffield United, where he hopes to make an immediate impact for his new club.
