Senator Musa Sani clarified that President Tinubu is delaying the 2025 budget submission to the National Assembly to ensure it addresses past fiscal lapses and incorporates public concerns. Despite House reminders on fiscal deadlines, Sani emphasized that prioritizing a well-crafted budget over speed is crucial to support economic stability.

Senator Musa Sani, Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, explained that President Bola Tinubu is carefully taking his time before submitting the 2025 budget to ensure it’s free of errors. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Sani addressed concerns about the delayed presentation, emphasizing that Tinubu’s administration wants to avoid rushing policies and respond thoughtfully to public concerns over past budgeting.

Senator Sani highlighted that the president’s approach aims to strengthen Nigeria’s economy by learning from the 2024 budget. He reassured Nigerians that although the budget is being delayed, it’s not too late for submission and passage. Sani affirmed that the executive and legislative branches seek to avoid hastily prepared financial plans and appreciate a well-crafted budget that can be scrutinized effectively.

The House of Representatives recently reminded the President of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, which requires budget estimates and other financial frameworks to be submitted at least four months before the new fiscal year. While Senator Sani acknowledged the importance of timely submission, he noted that quality should take precedence over speed. Lawmakers expect the executive to deliver a comprehensive document that aligns with the nation’s economic reforms without compromising due diligence.
