Nyesom Wike, FCT Minister, accuses former Rivers Governor Peter Odili of sabotaging the peace agreement brokered by President Bola Tinubu. Tensions continue between Wike and Governor Fubara, with Wike rejecting Odili’s claims and defending his leadership as the best Rivers has ever had.

Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, has accused former Rivers State Governor Peter Odili of undermining the peace agreement mediated by President Bola Tinubu to resolve the ongoing political conflict in Rivers State. The tension between Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who were once allies, has escalated into a bitter power struggle.

In a recent gathering with Rivers stakeholders, Wike claimed that Odili played a role in derailing the peace accord, which had been signed in late 2023 during a key meeting in the Presidential Villa. The agreement, designed to ease political tensions, quickly fell apart after Fubara asserted that he had been coerced into endorsing it, leading to the breakdown of the truce.

Odili had previously accused Wike of pursuing personal gains at the expense of the state and praised Fubara for resisting Wike’s attempts to monopolize governance. In response, Wike vehemently rejected these claims, defending his record and reiterating his commitment to making Rivers State a medical hub for South-South Nigeria. He also accused Odili of encouraging Fubara to disregard President Tinubu's directives, which he believes worsened the situation.

Wike maintained that he would not apologize to Odili, emphasizing his belief that he had been the best governor Rivers State had ever seen. The political feud continues to divide the state's leadership, with each side accusing the other of sabotaging efforts to restore peace and stability.
