Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister, asserted his political dominance over opponents backing Governor Fubara during an Ijaw Peoples Congress event in Rivers State. He dismissed threats to his leadership, emphasized that wealth doesn’t equate to political power, and criticized Fubara's supporters for attempting to control the PDP's structure.
In a recent event hosted by the Ijaw Peoples Congress in Amadi-Ama, Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), delivered a forceful message to his opponents. He declared that they were no match for him, asserting his dominance amid ongoing tensions within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers.
Wike responded to threats from those supporting Governor Siminilayi Fubara’s bid to control the party structure, stating, “Let nobody threaten anybody. All those threats are empty.” He emphasized that no one could take control of the party’s framework, regardless of their financial resources.
His remarks followed a communiqué from the PDP Governors Forum that backed Fubara’s claim to leadership, which Wike found infuriating. He warned other governors against opposing him, asserting he would retaliate if provoked.
Despite Fubara directing his supporters to run local government elections under the All Peoples Party (APP) platform after being sidelined by the national PDP leadership, Wike ridiculed this move, questioning how Rivers State could consider aligning with APP.
Wike also remarked on the motivations behind the opposition, implying that those supporting Fubara lacked integrity. He concluded by expressing confidence in his political influence, insisting that true political success comes from capability, not merely wealth, and proclaimed, “We have not started politics. When the time comes, we will play politics.”
