FCT Minister Nyesom Wike denies interfering with the Rivers State Assembly amid a power struggle with Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Speaking at an event, Wike accused Dr. Tammy Danagogo of fueling tensions. Meanwhile, PANDEF youths demand an apology over his Ijaw remarks, warning of political consequences for President Tinubu.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed that he will not interfere with the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Martins Amaewhule, as they carry out their legislative duties. Speaking at an event in Rivers State, Wike accused the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, of fueling the political crisis in the state and boasted that he was two steps ahead of Governor Siminalayi Fubara in their ongoing power struggle.

Wike's comments come amid rising tensions in Rivers, where he continues to clash with his successor over governance and political control. The event, organized by his supporters in Abalama Town, was nearly disrupted by protests from Kalabari women who opposed his past remarks on the Ijaw people. The women, dressed in black, blocked access to the venue, while local leaders, including King Big Tom-Tom, urged organizers to cancel the gathering.

Addressing the situation, Wike dismissed claims that he disrespected the Ijaw community, arguing that his statements had been misinterpreted. He reiterated his role in securing Fubara’s election victory, stating that the governor’s current allies had initially opposed his candidacy.

On the Assembly’s ongoing actions, Wike criticized Fubara for allegedly withholding lawmakers' salaries and ignoring their grievances. He maintained that the Assembly members would not lose their seats and should be allowed to function without interference.

Meanwhile, the youth wing of the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has issued a 48-hour ultimatum for Wike to apologize for his comments about the Ijaw people. The group warned that his remarks could affect President Bola Tinubu’s political standing in the Niger Delta. They also called for Wike’s removal as minister and urged the federal government to investigate him over alleged misconduct.
