Lere Olayinka, an aide to Nyesom Wike, has denied claims that the FCT Minister collapsed in Abuja. Social media reports suggested Wike was hospitalized, but Olayinka called them “fake.” The allegations emerge amid the ongoing Rivers State political crisis between Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Reports alleging that Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), collapsed at an event in Abuja have been dismissed as false by his aide, Lere Olayinka.
Social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter), were flooded with claims that Wike slumped on Friday and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for medical attention. However, Olayinka, who serves as Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, refuted the reports, calling them “fake” when contacted by journalists.
The claims surfaced amid the ongoing political tension in Rivers State, where Wike and his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, remain locked in a power struggle. The crisis deepened further after former Rivers Head of Service, George Nwaeke, leveled new allegations against Fubara, escalating political uncertainty in the state.
The minister has yet to make a public statement on the matter, but his aide’s dismissal of the claims has not stopped speculations online. Many social media users questioned the credibility of the reports, while others linked them to the intense political battle between Wike and Fubara.
Political analysts believe the misinformation surrounding Wike’s health could be an attempt to sway public sentiment amid the crisis. However, sources close to the minister insist he remains active and in good health.
