Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, criticized former Rivers State Governor Peter Odili for sycophancy, claiming he revived Odili’s political relevance. Wike also highlighted how Odili praised him but now supports Governor Siminalayi Fubara, contradicting his earlier stance.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has accused former Rivers State governor Peter Odili of sycophancy and political opportunism. Speaking at a thanksgiving service in Port Harcourt, Wike alleged that Odili, once sidelined from politics, owes his resurgence to Wike's support during his governorship.

Wike disclosed that he facilitated significant gestures for Odili, including commissioning Julius Berger to construct a mansion for him and ensuring the Rivers State government sponsored students at Odili’s PAMO University. Despite these efforts, Wike criticized Odili for undermining him in favor of current Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who Odili claimed has achieved more than past governors within a year in office.

Wike accused Odili of leveraging personal and family connections inappropriately during his tenure and questioned his credibility as an elder statesman. He noted that Odili had once praised him lavishly during his governorship, only to reverse his stance now.

The minister lamented Odili’s public remarks, which he called inconsistent and self-serving, and accused him of organizing events to align with current political dynamics rather than maintaining principled leadership.

Wike concluded by stating that he has moved on to focus on his ministerial responsibilities in Abuja and dismissed Odili’s actions as inconsequential to his legacy. He urged Odili to avoid sycophantic tendencies and reflect on his role as a statesman in the political sphere.
