The FCTA revoked land rights for 568 Maitama II plot owners over unpaid fees. Prominent figures, including Speaker Abbas and Governors Diri and Uzodimma, are affected. Officials urge compliance with land allocation rules, emphasizing accountability. The reclaimed plots may open opportunities for new developments in Abuja's prime real estate zone.

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has revoked the Right of Occupancy (R of O) for various plot holders in Maitama II, Cadastral Zone A10, Abuja. The decision, effective January 15, 2025, stems from non-payment of outstanding Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) fees despite earlier extensions provided by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

According to the FCTA, the action aligns with Section 28 of the Land Use Act of 1978, allowing the government to reclaim land where terms of allocation are breached. The announcement affects 568 individuals, including prominent politicians and public figures like Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, Governors Duoye Diri (Bayelsa) and Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Senator Shehu Sani, and former Governor Ben Ayade.

The administration clarified that individuals who settled their dues before the deadline are exempt. The FCTA emphasized its commitment to enforcing compliance and accountability in managing land resources within Abuja.

Maitama II, a high-value real estate area, now has several reclaimed plots potentially available for development. The FCTA hopes the move will deter future defaulters and create opportunities for compliant stakeholders.

The public is advised to avoid transactions involving the revoked plots. Officials reiterated the importance of adhering to land allocation terms to avoid similar sanctions.
