Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, rebuked activist Deji Adeyanju after he protested demolitions in Abuja. Wike claimed Adeyanju’s opposition stemmed from personal motives, accusing him of seeking the PDP National Publicity Secretary position. Wike dismissed Adeyanju’s activism as a result of having no job.
In a recent clash between Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and activist Deji Adeyanju, Wike dismissed Adeyanju’s criticism of the ongoing demolitions in Abuja. Adeyanju had led protests against the demolitions, claiming that the actions lacked justification and calling for President Bola Tinubu’s intervention.
In an interview, Wike accused Adeyanju of using the issue as a platform for attention, citing a personal grudge stemming from Adeyanju's failed attempt to secure the position of PDP National Publicity Secretary. Wike claimed that Adeyanju, who hails from Kogi State, had approached him seeking the role, but he was rejected. "He has no job and that's why he turned to civil society activism," Wike said.
The FCT Minister’s remarks have ignited heated reactions from both activists and supporters, as Adeyanju’s protest continues to gain attention. Some critics have questioned Wike’s handling of the demolitions, which have sparked widespread controversy, while others view the criticism as politically motivated.
