Nyesom Wike warns that the PDP is repeating past mistakes, criticizing the Governors Forum and Atiku Abubakar’s opposition coalition plans. He blames internal divisions and impunity for the 2023 loss and cautions that similar disunity could cost the party victory in 2027.
Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has publicly criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, accusing them of insincerity in their recent political strategies. Speaking in Abuja, Wike cautioned that the PDP risks repeating its 2023 electoral mistakes if it continues on its current trajectory.

His comments came in response to Atiku’s recent calls for a coalition of opposition parties aimed at challenging President Bola Tinubu in 2027—a move already facing internal resistance. Notably, Governor Seyi Makinde, chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, openly declined support for the initiative, further exposing rifts within the party.

Wike stated bluntly, “There’s a lack of honesty in this coalition talk. Even within the PDP, many are motivated by personal agendas rather than party unity.” He added that the Governors Forum is not an official decision-making body and should not override the party’s constitution or influence the National Working Committee.

The former Rivers State governor also criticized Makinde’s recent media appearance, claiming it misrepresented internal issues. He blamed PDP’s 2023 loss on impunity and disregard for zoning agreements, warning that history could repeat itself in 2027 if the same patterns persist.

Wike emphasized that unchecked behavior by the Governors Forum could jeopardize the PDP’s future, urging the party to learn from past failures and prioritize internal discipline.
