The Ministry of Works, under the leadership of Sen. David Umahi, has initiated a comprehensive review of the N1.5 trillion debt owed to contractors by the federal government.
Umahi announced the formation of six committees, one for each geopolitical zone, tasked with scrutinizing certified certificates generated before and after May 29th, 2023.
The committees will also evaluate approved and unapproved variation of prices, along with pending augmentations, presenting recommendations to the Ministry’s management. Umahi emphasized the significance of addressing the inherited debt and urged owed contractors to submit their claims with supporting documents.
The Minister acknowledged the road sector's vital role in economic development, highlighting the need for special attention beyond the 2024 budget.
He expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and approval of key projects in the 2024 agenda.
The Ministry reaffirms its commitment to road infrastructure development in alignment with the Renewed Hope agenda.
