Nigeria and South Africa drew 1-1 in a crucial World Cup qualifier in Uyo. Fisayo Dele-Bashiru equalized Themba Zwane's opener as the Super Eagles struggled to capitalize on their opportunities, resulting in a missed chance to top Group C.

In a crucial World Cup qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria and South Africa played out a 1-1 draw on Friday night. The match featured a goal from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru for Nigeria, equalizing Themba Zwane's opener, but the Super Eagles couldn't clinch a win against the resilient visitors.

Manchester City academy product Fisayo Dele-Bashiru earned a starting spot for Nigeria, while Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali made his home debut. Despite Nigeria's initial setup in an attacking 4-3-3 formation, South Africa's composed passing game allowed them to gain control early on.

The Bafana Bafana had the first significant chance when Teboho Mokoena's free-kick hit the crossbar. South Africa capitalized on their momentum when Themba Zwane scored just before halftime, exploiting Nigeria's defensive lapse. Despite late attempts from Nigeria, including Dele-Bashiru's equalizer in the second half, the Super Eagles couldn't find the winning goal.

Although Nigeria showed determination in the second half, they missed a penalty shout for Dele-Bashiru and failed to convert several chances, resulting in a draw that left them unable to top Group C.
