Nigeria World's Most Powerful Passports: Nigeria, Sudan and Somalia worst in Africa

The Henley Passport Index for 2024 reveals that six countries now jointly claim the title of having the world's most powerful passports. France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore, and Spain have emerged as leaders, allowing their citizens visa-free access to a remarkable 194 destinations out of 227 globally.

Passport Power Dynamics:

• Four EU member states—France, Germany, Italy, and Spain—have joined forces with Japan and Singapore, showcasing the strength of their passports.
• The UK, while maintaining its 2023 fourth position, has faced a gradual decline over the past six years. Alongside Belgium, Luxembourg, Norway, and Portugal, UK citizens enjoy visa-free access to 191 countries.
• Australia secures its sixth-place position, providing its passport holders with visa-free entry to 189 countries.
• The U.S. maintains its seventh position, granting its citizens access to 188 countries without a visa, though it still lags behind its 2014 joint-first ranking with the UK.

Global Passport Landscape:

• The Henley Passport Index, based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), scrutinizes the number of countries citizens can enter without a prior visa.
• Finland, South Korea, and Sweden secure the world's second most powerful passports, offering visa-free access to 193 countries.
• Austria, Denmark, Ireland, and the Netherlands share the third spot, with their populations enjoying visa-free access to 192 countries.
• Afghanistan, with a visa-free access score of only 28, remains at the bottom of the index, followed by Syria, Iraq, Pakistan, Yemen, and Somalia as the six weakest passports globally.
• Palestinian Territory slightly outperforms, sharing the 98th spot with Nepal and Libya, with a visa-free access score of 40.
