Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, WTO Director-General, has refuted Simon Ekpa’s claims of a $57.5 billion loan to the Biafra Republic Government in Exile. She urged individuals to stop misusing her name for falsehoods, emphasizing the importance of truth during politically sensitive times.

Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), has issued a stern warning to Simon Ekpa, a controversial Biafran activist, to refrain from misusing her name to spread falsehoods. Ekpa recently made a now-deleted post on social media platform X, claiming that the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) were prepared to loan $57.5 billion to the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE). He alleged that Okonjo-Iweala was instrumental in facilitating this supposed loan, stating, "I thank our sister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for helping me to facilitate the loan."

In response to these claims, Okonjo-Iweala emphatically denied any involvement. She emphasized the significance of clarifying such misinformation, particularly during politically charged times. In her statement, she remarked, "I know no sensible person will believe what is contained in the outrageous tweet below, but in these troubled times, it is important to underscore that the statement is false. Again, I enjoin all those seeking to misuse my name to desist!"
