At least 32 people, including women and children, tragically lost their lives when an overloaded boat carrying 40 passengers capsized in the Mashayar Yan Tauri River in Gummi, Zamfara State. The incident occurred after the boat collided with an empty vessel.

Residents reported that the few survivors appeared two hours after the boat sank, while rescue efforts continued until 8 p.m. Despite these efforts, only eight passengers were rescued, with no additional bodies found.

Local authorities, including Sarkin Fadar Gummi, confirmed that search operations were put on hold, as they expect bodies to resurface by Sunday.
