Fresh facts emerged at the weekend on the probe of the allegedly missing $20 billion by the Senate finance committee. According to feelers from within the Senate committee, nothing incriminating has been found against the oil ministry and its agencies.

Sunday Independent investigation on Friday evening showed that, rather than the alleged fraud and mismanagement that necessitated the probe, senators discovered that former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, raised a false alarm and misled the committee.

The committee is also said to be unhappy that the Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, was not forthcoming in her testimonies, especially when it was clear that Sanusi was literally misrepresenting figures in his presentations.

The suspension of Sanusi on Thursday by President Goodluck Jonathan has pitted the All Progressives Congress (APC) senators against their Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterparts.
