Just when you’re ready to put your money on the human race in the event of a malicious alien invasion, SplashData releases an update that lists “123456” as the worst and most common password of 2013. Apparently, “123456” replaces “password” as the worst password. (“Password” was the worst password for 2013, by the way. There is a pun in that one, but I’m too shocked to even mention it.)
SplashData says it got its data from the data dumps of stolen passwords posted on the internet, the largest of which was (of course) Adobe’s hacked accounts from last year. Apparently, almost 2 million of the more than 130 million user accounts hacked used “123456” as their password. Cry with me for a minute, will you?
