A ten-month-old baby Melda Ilgın has been rescued at the Çanakkale beach in Turkey after she was found floating nearly 1km out at sea in an inflatable toy.
Turkish coastguard made a dramatic rescue after strong winds took Melda out towards the Greek Island of Lesbos as she drifted away from the Turkish coastline.
According to METRO, the child’s parents had forgotten they had left her in the flotation device and did not realise what had happened to Melda until other sunbathers saw the child drifting out to sea.
Other people at beach tried to reach the infant but the current was too strong and they called the coast guard.
The child was picked up and brought back to shore.
