Superstition is the belief in supernatural causality that one event causes another without any natural process linking the two events. In Nigeria, some strange beliefs are tied to a woman's pregnant state, and in many cases, the fear in the truism of these beliefs make pregnant women adhere to some of them. They include.

1. It is widely held that a pregnant woman should not walk in an afternoon sun or late in the night – as there are evil and strange spirits or demons walking at those hours, and could easily possess the child.

2. Also, if a pregnant woman eat grass-cutter while pregnant, she must gather the bones and keep them. She will hold them while putting to bed to have safe delivery

3. Also, pregnant women should not eat snails and okro soup. Else, the child would be sluggish and have drooling mouth.

4. That a pregnant woman should fold her wrapper or tie stone to it and place it on her head to reduce labour pain.

5. That a pregnant woman should not dip her hand into her husband's pocket, else the child will have deep eyes.

6. That a pregnant woman should not drink directly from the bottle or can else she will give birth to a stammerer.

7. A Pregnant woman should not allow people cross over her leg, else she will give birth to a child with one leg or hand. Or a very stubborn child should not cross over a pregnant woman else she will give birth to resemble the stubborn child.

8. A pregnant woman should not see masquerades.

9. A pregnant woman should not deride to maimed people, deaf, tongue-tied and so on, or else she will give birth to a child with same characteristics.

10. Also, it is believed that a pregnant woman should put safety pin in her head or tie stone to her wrapper for easy delivery.
