The story a young boy who barbs, and makes 5,000 went viral last weekend. It was after an instagram user Chygoz101, shared the picture of a boy giving him a haircut. The young boy is Lekan, aged 10, who had come to Lagos about a year ago from Ogun state to stay with his mom’s brother, Kazeem, a welder.
When Lekan landed in Lagos, he was faced with the option of either schooling or learning a trade. Lekan opted for the two – and signified interest in barbing.
As it is the usual practice in Nigeria for anyone who wants to learn trade, some amount of money and a crate of soft drinks were exchanged and Lekan became an apprentice under Mishak.
He’s not the only young apprentice under Mishak. There’s Nudegbesi, Ahmed Alabede, Muyisi, and Bola. They age between 10 -19 and are all in school except Ahmed.
Lekan, a JSS 1 Student, who was recently interviewed by Pulse TV's Chuey reaffirms that he makes 5,000 in a day. He cuts on average six people a day, at N500 a cut. But his main source of income are the tips he gets from satisfied customers. Some tip as high as N1000, double the amount to have your haircut.
Lekan's favorite song is Adekunle Gold's 'Enu Ose'. In the interview (whose video is below), he finally spoke with Adekunle Gold.
