A member of the house of representative, Francis Haske Hannaniya has urged President Goodluck Jonathan to withdraw $1 billion from the excess crude account to fight Boko Haram instead of waiting for the National Assembly’s approval of his request to take a loan; Daily Independent reported.
Addressing newsmen, Hannaniya said, "The request is justified because it is without doubt that the military needs arms to fight these insurgents. I call on Mr. President to take money from the execs crude account or reserves and procure equipment for the army.
"I urge Mr. President to go ahead because with what is going on, Nigeria cannot afford to wait for another one month. The National Assembly is resuming sometime in September and unless an emergency session is called, the president will continue to wait. The president has to act now.
About a week ago, the President had written to the National Assembly seeking approval to obtain a $1 billion loan to help the Federal Government in its war against terrorism and other security challenges in the country.
