The Northern Emancipation Network and the Norther Coalition for Democracy and Justice have said Muhammadu Buhari must face prosecution by the International Criminal Court (ICCI) for the post-2011 election violence.

It would be recalled that after Jonathan was declared winner of the 2011 elections, parts of the North broke out in violence, which led to the deaths of more than 800 Nigerian citizens (according to Human Rights Watch.)

Critics say Buhari's supporters were responsible for the killings, and they accused Buhari of inciting them so.

“We recall that just before the 2011 elections, Muhammadu Buhari had categorically directed crowds at his campaign rallies in the north to protect their votes no matter the cost,” the message in the groups' statement read. “Alas! The cost turned out to be the unquantifiable lives and valuable properties of citizens.

“The lives and properties so affected were mostly those of non-partisan innocent lower class citizens, including dozens of National Youth Service Corps members (Bauchi 12) while thousands more within the same category were displaced.”
