The police in Kwara said three persons died on Monday in a clash among suspected political party rivals in Ilorin.

Mr Okasanmi Ajayi, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, said 12 suspects had also been arrested in connection with the clash.

An eyewitness said some people sustained injuries during the clash that lasted for some hours in Abayawo, Alore-Ode, Adana-Omoda, Ode-Alawusa and Okelele areas of Ilorin.

The police in the state said the clash followed the defection of some members of the All Progressives Congress in Alore area of Ogidi ward in Ilorin West Local Government Area to Peoples Democratic Party on June 13.

The eyewitness said the clash was caused by the disagreement among the rivals on how to share some money given to them after the event.

Residents of the affected areas said the clash, which kept most of them indoor, affected the social and economic activities.

The police said armed mobile police men had been deployed to the affected areas to restore peace while investigations were ongoing
