No fewer than 300 students of the Federal Government Girls’ College, Efon Alaaye in Ekiti State have been hospitalised over an outbreak of a disease suspected to be cholera epidemic in the school.
The development had triggered serious panic across the state, as parents whose wards are in the school rushed in droves to identify the victims.
The pupils were said to have been taken to the General Hospital, Efon Alaaye, in batches.
But about 20 of them were confirmed to be receiving treatment.
The situation is under control as the government in conjunction with the World Health Organisation (WHO) has assisted with drugs and consumables.
They were said to have started manifesting symptoms of diarrhoea since October 10, which did not abate until more infections were reported.
