The Edo state governorship election was held on Wednesday, in which APC and PDP exchanged lethal swords of battle.

Here are 5 top things you need to know about the election, and the impending results.

1. The election was generally peaceful. TMG Chairman Dr. Abiola Akiyode-Afolab said materials arrived early in almost all of the units and election went smoothly and in most cases, peacefully. He added that there are few unconfirmed cases of violence.

In case you're wondering, TMG stands for Transition Monitoring Group. They're a neutral body of election observers.

2. INEC has urged the public to disregard all reports (mostly on social media) about who is leading overall or not. Results about wards and units may be out but the overall result remains unknown - until collation is concluded.

Unofficially, APC and PDP are neck to neck, (that's according to Punch newspaper)

3. PDP claimed a major victory by winning the polling unit of APC chairman, John Odigie Oyegun. PDP had 78 votes while APC had 69 votes.

4. Seemingly in retaliation, Edo Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, knocked PDP out in his own unit. The "Comrade" dealt a heavy blow to the opposition party by winning 752 to 2.

5. The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Edo, Mr. Sam Olumekun, says the collation of results would commence on Thursday. He didn't mention when but it's expected to be around late morning or early afternoon.

Here's more: APC candidate Godwin Obaseki and PDP's Osagie Ize-Iyamu said the election was peaceful. APGA Osaro Onaiwu candidate wants INEC to cancel it immediately.
