The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is yet to recognize the recent change in Etisalat Nigeria's brand name to 9Mobile.
The commission on Monday said Etisalat is yet to officially inform the regulator about it.
“We have not received any official communication from Etisalat on change of name. We take the news of change of name as rumour for now until we are informed,” Tony Ojobo, NCC’s spokesman said.
He also pacified Etisalat's subscribers, urging them not to panic over the firm's debt crisis.
“No subscriber should exercise any fear; nothing will happen to their Etisalat lines…Nigerians should, therefore, disregard rumours about the change of name,” he said.
