A governorship aspirant in Akwa Ibom, Mr Ekpenyong Ntekim, on Monday promised to promote harmony and unity among the sub-ethnic groups in the state if elected governor.

Ntekim, who is the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, said this at a meeting with the Council of Oron Traditional Rulers at Oron Civic Centre.

The aspirant, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said he would form an all-inclusive government that would cater for the interests of the various groups and people if elected.

"I want to assure our Ibibio, Annang, Obolo and Ibeno brothers that I do not intend to be an Oron governor. I want to be the governor of Akwa Ibom,’’ he said.

Ntekim said his aspiration was based on his conviction in the unity and development of the state.

He appealed to traditional rulers to support his aspiration, and promised not to disappoint them.

"I am very firm and determined . I am prepared to be the governor of this state with a deserved capacity and good conscience. This is why I have come to you my fathers to seek your consent, encouragement, support and prayers,’’ Ntekim said.

Speaking on behalf of the royal fathers, Chief Ofong Ekeng, the Clan Head of Idua in Oron Council Area, commended the aspirant for offering himself for service.

He said it was the prayer of the traditional rulers that the next governor of the state should be of an Oron extraction.

Oron is the third largest sub-ethnic group in the state and was yet to produce a democratically elected Governor.
