Justice Abubakar Umar of the FCT High Court has adjourned until June 26 to hear prayers of a governorship aspirant in Akwa-Ibom, Mr Leo Ekpenyong against the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).

The judge adjourned the matter on Monday for definite hearing after the plaintiff counsel, Mr Victor Iyanam moved a motion ex-parte to file-in an amendment of the originating summon.

Umar however granted the motion ex-parte of the counsel to file-in the amendment summon to substitute the earlier one.

The plaintiff had in May 12 filed in an originating summoned challenging the zoning policy of the party as illegal and contrary to the principle of democracy.

In the originating summon, the plaintiff alleged that the zoning formula of the PDP tries to exclude some interested aspirants in contesting the forthcoming party primary election in the state.

The plaintiff said that the policy placed a disadvantage on aspirants on account of senatorial district, local government area or ethnicity by which the aspirant was known.

Ekpenyong is also challenging the resolution of the state chapter of the PDP contained in its communiqué published on April 24 in some Newspapers as unconstitutional, null and void.
