The alleged gang-rape of a woman in a moving vehicle has sparked protests and rallies from the shocked people.
Tthe woman was thrown out of a rickshaw and she died a day later in a hospital.
Since then, protests have been staged across the state with activists of the All-Assam Students
Union and women’s rights organisations
protesting in front of the local police station.
A youth organisation, the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), has also staged candlelight
rallies in the district, according to reports.
According to reports, there were three men in the vehicle and they not only raped the woman, she was also beaten with an iron rod. The victim was on her way to pick her daughter from school.
A suspect have been taken into custody.
