The purported threat of impeachment by six members of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly was Friday confirmed by the self-acclaimed speaker of the House, Hon Evans Bapakaye Bipi representing Ogu/Bolo state constituency.
Evans who refused to comment on the details of the plan said the state Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, was “impeachable”, adding that the governor has committed several impeachable offences in recent times and therefore “must be removed from office”.
Speaking exclusively with Saturday Independent in Port Harcourt, Rivers state capital on Friday, the controversial lawmaker enumerated some of the offences allegedly committed by the governor to include: the N40billion monorail project, taking of the House of Assembly to Government House for seating, grounding of the state judiciary and none payment of lawmakers’ allowances.
